Why roof structure deflection matters when engineering overhead safety systems in KSA
A roof-supported fall-arrest installation transfers forces into the building when it stops a fall. The supporting steelwork can move under those forces, changing the position of the worker’s attachment point. Engineers designing overhead safety systems therefore need to assess structural movement alongside load capacity. Fall-protection design criteria explicitly recognize movement within the system, movement at its connections and deflection of its supporting structure. For KSA projects, this assessment should form part of the installation design before mounting positions are approved. Supporting steelwork becomes part of the fall-arrest calculation An anchor safety system transfers loads through its brackets and connections into the receiving structure. Assessing the anchor component alone leaves the behavior of that structure unresolved. The building engineer and fall-protection designer need to coordinate the additional loads and the movement they produce. The implication of engi...
